What to include in a compact thermal invoice
Start with the business name and contact details, then the invoice number and date. Add customer details appropriate to the sale. A narrow roll still needs clear descriptions, quantities, units, unit prices and line amounts.
The sample is labeled Tax Invoice but does not show a supplier GSTIN in its header. Treat it as a visual reference; the label and sample HSN values do not establish that it meets the requirements for your transaction.
- Business details and applicable registration information.
- Unique invoice number, date and relevant order reference.
- Item description, quantity and unit price; line amount.
- Discounts and tax treatment clearly identified.
- Invoice total, payments already allocated and balance due.
- Payment instructions using your verified payment details.
Keep long item names readable
Use a description row followed by a smaller quantity-and-rate row. Align amounts consistently so customers can scan the column. Wrap long names instead of squeezing them into tiny text; put optional item details below the description.
Check charges separately from payments
For a straightforward sale, calculate charges after discounts and applicable taxes, then subtract payments allocated to that invoice. A printed payment adjustment must match a real payment record. The supplied invoice’s displayed numbers leave ₹298 due, although its printed due is ₹250; resolve the ₹48 difference before using those figures.
Use a verified payment QR destination
Replace the sample payment handle and QR code with your actual payment destination. Confirm the recipient shown by the payment app and any intended amount before sharing. A QR code offers a payment route; it does not prove money was received.
Illustrative bill calculations
Check the numbers before printing
Both previews show six item amounts: ₹265 + ₹175 + ₹116 + ₹28 + ₹140 + ₹42 = ₹766. They use sample date 6 October 2026. The invoice and receipt have different tax presentation and payment status; compare them as separate design examples.
Invoice: displayed figures leave ₹298 due
| Item subtotal | ₹766.00 |
|---|---|
| Discount | −₹16.00 |
| CGST plus SGST | +₹48.62 |
| Round off | −₹0.62 |
| Calculated charges before payment | ₹798.00 |
| Payment allocated | −₹500.00 |
| Calculated balance due | ₹298.00 |
| Balance printed in preview | ₹250.00 |
The preview leaves ₹48 unexplained. If a different tax interpretation or adjustment was intended, make it explicit and recalculate the bill. This arithmetic check does not validate the sample tax rates or tax treatment.
